The Stitch Lab
Preparing an Embroidery Design and Sampling Project
What to include when approaching Gordina about embroidery research, original design, samples or custom production.

The Stitch Lab is Gordina’s embroidery studio for brands, businesses and creative projects. Its services include motif research, original embroidery design, sampling and custom production. A clear brief helps the studio understand what you want to make and prepare a proposal.
Start with the piece
Describe the garment or textile, its fabric and the place where you want the embroidery. Include the approximate motif dimensions and photographs or a sketch. An image helps explain the idea; it does not by itself establish the best stitch structure or guarantee a result on a particular fabric.
What to put in your brief
- The purpose of the project and the intended wearer or customer.
- Your artwork or reference images, with any known source or attribution.
- Fabric, garment type, colours and intended embroidery placement.
- The approximate number of pieces and size or colour variations.
- Your budget range, preferred timing and any fixed event date.
- Whether you need research, a new design, a sample or production.
Why make a sample?
A stitched sample lets you assess scale, thread colour, density and the way the fabric behaves. A drawing and a finished embroidery are different surfaces. Discuss which details need to be resolved before deciding on production.
Agree the scope
Ask the studio to confirm what the proposal includes, the sample and revision process, the production quantity and timing. These depend on the project; this guide does not promise a standard minimum order or a fixed turnaround.
